Brick Calculator
Enter your wall size, thickness and brick type to get the number of bricks plus the cement and sand for mortar.
How the brick calculator works
We work in volume. Each brick takes up its own size plus a 10 mm mortar joint, so the wall volume divided by the brick-with-mortar volume gives the count (then we add ~5% for breakage).
- Wall volume = length × height × thickness
- Bricks = wall volume ÷ (brick size + 10 mm joint), + 5% wastage
- Mortar = wall volume − brick volume, then split by the mortar ratio (e.g. 1:6)
Common brick sizes
| Type | Size | Bricks / m³ (approx) |
| Modular | 190 × 90 × 90 mm | ~500 |
| Standard | 230 × 110 × 75 mm | ~460 |
Openings (doors and windows) are not deducted automatically — subtract them for a tighter figure.
Brick calculator FAQ
How many bricks in 1 m³?›
About 500 modular bricks (190×90×90 mm) per cubic metre including the mortar joint.
Does the calculator deduct doors and windows?›
No — it sizes the full wall. Subtract opening areas yourself for a closer number.
What mortar ratio should I use?›
1:6 (cement:sand) is typical for non-load-bearing brickwork; 1:4–1:5 for stronger or load-bearing walls.
